The Primary Purpose of the Global Day of Prayer is to have a day of repentance and prayer where we will ask the Lord to forgive our sins, for the restoration of the church and for the healing of the nations.

All nations are encouraged to unite in prayer for one day a year to stand before the Lord on the basis of the 2 Scripture verses i.e. 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land", and Habbakkuk 2:14 "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea."

Vision
: The Glory of Christ and the Blessing of the Nations, based on Habbakkuk 2:14

Mission: To call Christians from all nations to unite in repentance and prayer, and to collaborate as God's instruments for the blessing of the nations based on 2 Chronicles 7:14.

Statement of faith: The Apostles' Creed - I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. AMEN.

More About GDOP

We thank the Lord that He has been sowing the seeds of a prayer revival among His people in Singapore through many prayer networks and initiatives in recent years.

The Global Day of Prayer (GDOP) in Singapore is organised by the Evangelical Fellowship of Singapore, together with many Singapore's churches and Christian organizations; in conjunction with "a global river of prayer" initiated by God world-wide.

It is a divine call for a nation-wide gathering of Christians for united prayer and repentance on Pentecost Sunday.  In 2010 it is held on 23 May, 3pm and 7.00pm at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, following 10 days of constant prayer.

It is also a day for all believers in Singapore to come together to exalt Him as Lord over all, to put our trust in Him and to intercede for ourselves, Church and nation.

On that day, we in Singapore will be joining more than 200 million Christians around the world to gather in repentance and intercede for the healing of our respective nations (2 Chronicles 7:14) and for God's glory to be revealed in all the world in accordance to Habakkuk 2: 14: "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea".

This initiative will continue until 2010 (Also see GDOP - Beyond 2010!). Every year on Pentecost Sunday there will be a Global Day of Repentance & Prayer, and these are the dates:

GDOP - Beyond 2010!

GDOP was birthed in 2000, Cape Town Africa with a view to climax in 2010 where all nations of the world would have a GDOP.

Her vision spread to different nations of the world over the years. Since 2009, all 220 nations were registered.

GDOP has been for many nations not just a good idea but a God idea blessed with a new unity. The feedback to Africa has been overwhelming to continue GDOP beyond 2010.

For Singapore, GDOP was birthed in 2006 under the leadership of the Evangelical Fellowship of Singapore. (EFOS)

After GDOP 2010, GDOP will come under the new umbrella of the National Prayer Alliance (NPA) which consist of all leaders responsible for all prayer meetings held in Singapore. NPA is led by Rev Edmund Chan, the Senior Pastor of Covenant Evangelical Free Church (CEFC)

NPA will provide leadership of GDOP from 2011 onwards with EFOS helping to anchor it.
